Marseille, france - day 2

Itinerary :

- Raw fish market

- Food market

- Soap and souvenirs

- Boat ride (Calanques tour)

Morning!

Hello my lovely readers! Here I will give you and overview of what we have done on our day 2. If you don't want to read this long post, I am going to release a post with MUST VISIT places as well. To not miss that, just hit subscribe!

Here we go. Day two.

We woke up pretty early to have some breakfast in our hotel cafe. I was in LOVE with the freshly squeezed orange juice!🍊

Honestly, would give up roast dinners for that juice... It tasted like it was almost sweetened with sugar, no bitterness or sourness at all! Every morning I watched them squeeze the juice as well.

Traditional French breakfast included coffee/tea, selection of cereals, home baked bread, ham and cheese (which also tasted amazing), yogurts and some more.

Do you ever find that when you are on holiday, or simply just not home, everything tastes so much better? Even if it's the same food haha!

First stop - markets at the old port! Those were filled with raw fresh fish, caught the same morning. Marseille Vieux Port is still a very productive harbour bringing lots of people from around Marseille in to buy fresh fish. The harbour is still one of the main income for the city.

Walking to the left side of the harbour, we also found a mixture of market stalls, have a look below! Full of different types of sausages (why?..) which tasted like heaven though; mini cactuses and soap. Must be the weirdest market to date haha!

We finally set off for the boat ride...🚤

Tip number 1 - if the boat crew tell you the sea is rough - it means it is REALLY rough. Tip number 2 - unless you like an ice cold shower - do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT sit on the seats on the front deck. They are for those who like to get soaking wet. Tip number 3 - bring a jacket. The sea is not only cold, but it is also pretty windy. If you are wearing a hat, be prepared to take it off, unless it is strapped to your head.

Tip number 4 - if you are someone who doesn't like rollercoasters, or is scared of water, probably shouldn't be going. As big as the boat is - it still sways pretty dramatically.

Our experience was great though! Even though the sea was rough, I personally loved it. It felt like rollercoasters. I sat right at the nose of the boat, which also meant I could tuck myself under and not get as much wind or water splash. If you are going on the big boat, I think the very front of the boat (i.e. right in the nose) is possibly the best seat you can get if you desperately want to sit on the deck.

When we set off and finally came out of the harbour, the sea hit us hard. No one expected that. The waves suddenly went from pretty much none, to 10+ meters height, which also meant the boat was free-falling from the top of the wave to the bottom of the next one, hitting the next wave so hard, that it would splash and completely soak EVERYONE on the front deck (I didn't get as much of the splash though!). There was a lot of screaming, not gonna lie it was so rough, that my bum actually lifted off the seat a couple of times. Not for everyone I can say. My sister had to go indoors, anxiety did not like this little rollercoaster experience.

Leaving the harbour

Calanques

We had 3hour and 15min trip around calanques. For those who are like me and had never heard this word before, here is a definition of it from Google : A calanque is a narrow, steep-walled inlet that is developed in limestone, dolomite and other carbonate strata and is found along the Mediterranean coast. Best known example can be found in the Massif de Calanques in Bouches-du-Rhone part of Southern France (i.e. between the coats of Marseille and Cassis).

This is not something I could put up into words or pictures, it is something you just want to sea. The National Calanques Park is just simply stunning. If you are in Marseille for more than a couple of days - it's a must! Now after the boat trip we decided to go back to our hotel to change and go grab some dinner. But on our way home I came across a gorgeous building at the end of the shopping street.

This is Bouches-du-Rhone - one of the original 83 departments of council created during French revolution on 4th of March 1790.

Evening

After getting back home, refreshing we decided to go to this unique restaurant tucked away on the right side of the harbour. I did not take any pictures of our restaurant, however the first picture shows what I wore for the night.

Marseille at night is something out of a fairytale. Walking back home we came across a filming set as well. Swipe to see it! This is the end of our day 2! P.s. I have also come across this amazing perfume shop, but I will make a separate post to show what I found.

Thank you so much for reading! Once again - comment on what you like, what you don't like, what you want to hear more off - ANYTHING!🙈

Love to hear from you!❤️
