MARSEILLE, FRANCE - Day 1

DAY 1

We began our journey on Thursday evening, as we went and stayed at my sister's in Colchester overnight. The idea was to cut on some driving, because we were leaving from Ebbsfleet international rail station. We used trainline to buy our tickets! (Click on the link for their website)

We were taking a TRAIN! Or two as a matter of fact. I was not in love with the idea of 7 hours spent on the train, however my boyfriend insisted it will be more comfortable in the end... Friday morning, 6th of September we left the house at around 7am. Now anyone who has travelled by train before will know, that there is no need to leave 3 hours for the passport checking and all that, but as we had to drive quite a distance to Ebbsfleet, we of course left waaay to early and had about 2 hours in the train station.

TIP : Save time. If you ever need to drive quite a distance to the train station or airport from which you are leaving - try and stay as close to it as possible. Hotel, Airbnb or friend's house. You will save some time in the morning, won't have to rush and will have a calmer travelling day. Ebbsfleet station - food/entertainment in the station. Travelling from this station remember, there is literally a single food shop which is a tiny M&S cafe there. Nothing, and I really mean NOTHING before walking through to the gates. The station is tiny and if you ever think you will be late - don't stress, you most likely won't be.

TIP for London-Marseille train journey : if you are ever travelling from London to Marseille - you will have to change your train in Paris. No one will tell you, but you will arrive to Paris du Nord station, but will have to leave from Paris du Lyon. Stations aren't far apart, but always have to just be cautious of time.

We arrived around 5.30pm local time. Changed, had a shower and went to Vieux Port (the Old Port) around 5mins from our hotel to watch the sunset. We had some food and went back home to rest. HOTEL We chose to stay in Hotel Maison Saint Louis - Vieux Port. This hotel is based in Noailles neighbourhood. North African quarters, with the daily chaotic markets African food stalls, tea shops, ceramics and fabrics.
